Steel portal frame skeleton being erected on construction site

Steel Frame Buildings

Faster to erect, cheaper than masonry, and built for clear-span performance. Portal frames, structural steelwork, cladding, and mezzanine floors across Hertfordshire.

Our Expertise

STEEL FRAME CONSTRUCTION ACROSS HERTFORDSHIRE

Steel frame is the fastest and most cost-effective way to build large commercial, industrial, and agricultural structures. We construct portal frame workshops, clear-span warehouses, grain stores, and distribution centres across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire — groundworks through to handover, one contractor.

Clear-span construction eliminates internal columns, giving you maximum usable floor area and unimpeded vehicle or machinery access. That matters when you are running a logistics operation, storing grain, or manoeuvring a forklift. We also install insulated cladding systems and mezzanine floors to maximise every square metre of your building.

Every steel frame we erect meets the required British Standards and Building Regulations. We work with trusted structural engineers and steel fabricators — your steelwork is precision-manufactured off-site, then erected quickly and accurately on prepared foundations.

Steel Frame Buildings FAQ

A portal frame uses rigid steel frames to create large, clear-span interiors — no internal columns or load-bearing walls. It is the most common structural form for single-storey commercial and agricultural buildings in the UK because it delivers excellent strength-to-weight ratios at a lower cost than traditional construction.

A standard portal frame building of around 500 square metres can typically be erected in 6 to 10 weeks once foundations are in place. The overall programme from design to handover runs 12 to 20 weeks. You get a detailed programme at quotation stage.

In most cases, significantly cheaper. Steel erects faster than masonry, which cuts labour costs. Components are precision-manufactured off-site, which reduces waste and rework. For large clear-span buildings — warehouses, agricultural stores, workshops — steel is almost always the most cost-effective structural solution.

Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire — including St Albans, Luton, Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Stevenage, Hitchin, Aylesbury, and the surrounding rural areas. For larger projects we are happy to discuss sites further afield.

Steel frames are ideal for agriculture. Grain stores, livestock housing, machinery storage, general-purpose farm buildings — they all benefit from the large clear-span openings that modern farming demands. We design to comply with agricultural permitted development rights where applicable.

Insulated composite panels, single-skin profiled metal sheeting, fibre cement, timber cladding, and brick or blockwork plinths. We also fit translucent roof sheets for natural daylight, roller shutter doors, personnel doors, and windows. We recommend the best combination for your building's intended use and budget.
